Grounds Maintenance of Llanpumsaint Vicarage,Carmarthen.

By | Recent work, Uncategorized | Comments

This is the Grounds maintenance  of Llanpumsaint Vicarage,Carmarthen. We are contracted by the Church of Wales to make sure all the grounds of the vicarages in the St Davids Diocese are kept in good order. This is one of our favurite places to maintain as it is set in the lovely village of Llanpumsaint and has its own picturesque grounds. They are currently building next to the house but there are still a substantial amount of grounds to maintain.

There is a lot of grassy areas to the front of the vicarage which has some very old trees growing there,to the side and rear there was a lot of overgrown weeds, which made the grounds look very shabby. There was a lot of rubbish to clear away from there, but once this was all done it changed the look of the vicarage completely.

To the very rear of the property there was a contained garden with rose and shrub borders, which would have been very pretty in its time to take a book and read quite peacefully.

We regularly maintain the grounds at the Llanpumsaint Vicarage, weedkilling and grasscutting every three weeks, this keeps the grounds in good order and hopefully the Church of Wales happy.

Clearing grounds of a bungalow ready for it to be resold.

We have been clearing grounds of this bungalow ready for it to be put on the for sale market. The hedges and bushes had not been touched in three years. We had to put three boys in to do all the work.

First of all the large hedge at the front of the property had to be trimmed and put back into shape, there was a lot of clearing up to do after this but it looked a lot better after it had been trimmed and cut.

The back hedge proved more difficult to do,it had been planted on a small bank behind the bungalow and balancing on a ladder was quite hair raising a few times,we managed it though and after clearing the brash and debris, this was the one that had the most sense of achievement.

The bushes in the driveway had been pretty in the border and after a trim it made the grounds and driveway look attractive to any potential buyers.Overall the grounds were cleared to a high standard and hopefully the bungalow will sell quickly.

Clearing the grounds and making kerb appeal will always help to sell any property and will be money well spent for the resale value.

Hedge Reduction of an Overgrown Conifer Hedge.

By | Recent work, Uncategorized | Comments

This was a Conifer Hedge Reduction that had grown widthways as well as the height. When we started,it was quite daunting, the top of the hedge was about 6ft wide and about 10ft high, we knew we were in for a hard days work and we then knuckled down to it.It was hard to take the top out as all the conifer had intertwined together and it was coming down in small pieces as the hedge was so dense,it was really hard to balance to use the chainsaw but we persevered and the hedge was looking really good at the end.

We filled our largest trailer and then some,it was the hardest job we had done in a while but had the most fulfilment from.We had four boys on site and they all did their fair share of work.We had good access from behind the hedge which made it easier to drag all the brash out!

We tend to have conifer hedges to reduce the most because when they are planted homeowners dont realise how much they can grow and the roots can damage walls and driveways also, hence the saying “Conifers from Hell”.

Removal of trees from a Doctor Who Tardis

By | Recent work, Uncategorized | Comments

These images are of Removal of trees from the side of a Doctor Who tardis, and yes you did read this right and no it is not on a Doctor Who set but in a garden that is on the outskirts of Carmarthen near Llandyfaelog. However the tardis is a genuine prop from the Doctor Who set that was used in the 1960s and 70s that was purchased by the current owner, while working we were expecting the doctor to call or a Dalek pop out of the hedge.

The trees were right beside the tardis and had to be dismantled and lowered down carefully to avoid any damage to the tardis,it was an intricate and a time consuming job but well worth the experience,we can now say we worked for  Doctor Who.

We get called out for some unusual jobs but this is the most unusual to date, and no Daleks were harmed during the works. The tardis will stand for another forty years because no trees will fall onto it,which leads to a very happy customer.

Overhanging trees on the boundary line.

Overhanging trees on the boundary line.

This set of images shows the recent work we did on some overhanging trees on the boundary line of a house owned by the Church of Wales in Llandeilo. We were called out to assess the trees and it was agreed that the trees would be cut back and taken away from the boundary fence, both neighbours were in agreement of this.Tree Preservation Orders have to be checked before works can start, this can be done through the local council.

On the day of works,we had a treeclimber and two groundsmen on site to do the works, all the brash and wood was put in one of our trailers and taken away from the job.We made the site neat and tidy after the works were completed.

As a result both parties were extremely pleased with the works and will be using our services again,we have secured a contract with the Church of Wales for maintenance of their grounds as and when we are needed on any of their properties.

Conifer Tree Reduction

Conifer Tree Reduction.

This was a Conifer Tree Reduction, these are the most popular kind of trees we get called out to reduce.Customers tend to have planted the trees not realising that they can grow to a considerable height very quickly. They then become unmanageable and unsightly for the garden. When you cut into them there can be a lot of brash to deal with and take away.

The above trees were at a house in Trevaughan,Carmarthen bordering onto farmland,we had a climber in the trees plus three groundworkers to deal with the brash, the hedge had to be reduced by more than half the size,we had a woodchipper  on site to chip the smaller branches and the customer will recycle the woodchip to use on the shrub borders as mulch. The logs stayed on the ground as well for the wood burner that the customer has.He was pleased with the results of the job and will now be able to maintain the trees himself and keep them at a manageable size.

Hedge Reduction

Hedge Reduction.

The above photos are of a hedge reduction of a hazel and blackthorn hedge,it was overgrown and it was blocking the sunlight from getting to the garden which was quite dreary during the summer months,as a result of this the customer wanted it reduced by half,so we set to work to reduce it.

We took a day to do this,we used a chainsaw first to take the top part of the hedge out, then tidied up the rest with a hedge trimmer, all our staff are fully qualified to use this equipment and possess the required certificates,as you can see the hedge had a neat uniform shape and would be much easier to maintain in the future, plus the sunlight would be back in the garden all ready for some summer entertaining on the patio area. The customer was extremely pleased with the works and as a result we have acquired more work from the neighbouring properties.

After the customer’s tree was removed we must move on to the next process tree stump removal. this will involved specialist equipment to remove the tree stump which many find unsightly. By completing the tree stump removal the customer was able to lay grass on the area to eliminate the area where the tree had grown.

Trees at the rear of the house can look lovely for a long period of time but once they grow uncontrollably and not maintained you can end up in the situation this garden did.

The trees grew to large blocking sun light entering the garden, looked terrible from the main road and over all scruffy for such a nice property.

The pictures above show the garden in a before and after showing how thick and tall the trees become obviously improvement has been made as the customer now has a new change of view and given the garden a much larger surface area.

The customer is now deciding what it is he wants to do with the new gained space so keep a look out for a update in the near future.
